Teaching Values as part of a "Complete Education"

Just about any school you choose to walk into will promote itself as teaching a ‘values-based education program’.  Those words roll easily off the tongue, but what do they actually mean to the Primary and Secondary students attending Kempsey Adventist School?
For the students at Kempsey Adventist School, the teaching of values is something which does not happen incidentally or unintentionally.  Rather, the core values which each student is taught at Kempsey Adventist School, like the school’s vision statement, Nurture for Today - Learning for Tomorrow - Character for Eternity, are more than just mere words which appear in a glossy school document.  Each of the teachers at Kempsey Adventist School is committed philosophically to representing the character of Christ to each of our students through not only the curriculum which they teach, but also their own character which they themselves present to the students as a daily guide.
Teaching student’s values, having them recognise the importance of a Christ-like character, and, in turn, developing a Christ-centred resilience which can help them to stand strong in the face of the multitude of challenges which life will in time present, is surely a core part of any values-based Christian education.  Adventist Education has a proud heritage of providing its students with “a greater vision of world needs” and equipping them with the values and skills required to change their world from within.
It follows, then, that a key part of the program at KAS is to lead each student towards the full development of their characters.  That is why KAS has a program which incorporates academic, physical, emotional, spiritual and cultural instruction through mentoring and quality teaching.  Teaching the 'whole' child and leading them towards achieving their individual best will always be the aim at KAS.
