Primary Co-curricular Activities at KAS
Capped class sizes and caring, experienced teachers are the hallmarks of the Primary school at KAS, with our students actively engaged in their education through a vibrant Board of Studies program which is relevant and useful in everyday living.
Academic excellence in the Primary school is encouraged through supportive teaching methods and a structured academic program which includes all Years 1-6 students participating in compulsory ACER standardised assessments at the commencement of each year. Students from Years 3-5 also participate in compulsory University of New South Wales (UNSW) English and Maths assessments each year, with our Year 6 students also completing the UNSW English, Maths and Science assessments together with our Secondary students each year.
Core Literacy skills are developed through the use of the LEXIA reading program throughout the Primary school which is in turn supported in Year 6 through our schools extensive electronic library facility. This electronic library allows our Year 6-HSC students to access almost 100,000 full text resources 24 hours a day from any internet connect via a student username and password.
The sports program at KAS is taught by specialist teachers with our students having the opportunity to represent KAS in various carnival days against other private schools through the North Coast Sports Association (NCSA).
Students from Year 4 onwards may learn a musical instrument of their choice and participate in one of our school bands prior to attending our annual Band Camp, where they have an opportunity to both refine and develop their musical talents.
